12U Ozone Rules

Perry Junior League 11/12U Boys (Ozone) Rules

1. Games will be 1 hour and 45 min or 6 innings.

2. A new inning of a game will not be started within 10 min of time expiring, but the inning must be finished unless the home team batting and in the lead, or the visiting teams ½ inning is completed and they are behind in the score. 

3. There is no limit to runs per inning.

4. A team may start and finish a game with 8 players.  The start of a game may be delayed by 10 minutes if one of the teams does not have 8 players present.  If the required number of players is not present after 10 minutes, that team must forfeit the game.  Start times will not be delayed if 8 or more players are present.

5. Run Rule is 15 after 3 or 10 after 4.

6. Pitcher shall not throw more than 85 pitches in the same game or on the same day. Exception: If the pitcher reaches the pitch count limit while facing a batter, he may continue to pitch until the batter reaches base safely or is put out.  See additional guidelines below.

7. A pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of the game. Any player who has played the position of catcher in four or more complete innings in a game is not eligible to pitch in that game.

8. A pitcher may pitch two games in one day provided he does not exceed 30 pitches in the first game.

9. Starting pitcher may not return to a game once he has been removed.

10. Balks will be enforced by the umpires.

11. A catcher is required to be in full gear with a throat protector and a cup. He must utilize a catcher’s glove.

12. Infield fly rule is in effect.

13. A continuous batting order will be utilized and enforced throughout the game.

14. A facemask is optional for the batter. 

15. Bunting is allowed.

16. A runner is allowed to lead off the base at risk of being put out.

17. A ball is considered live at all times unless the umpire calls time or there is a dead ball.

18. Stealing is allowed at any time.

19. A catcher cannot block the plate unless a play is being made.  If no play is being made, the catcher must give way to the runner.

20. A runner must attempt to make a slide or attempt to go around to a base/plate if a defensive player is present attempting to make a play. Runners MUST slide or surrender at home plate to avoid a collision.

21. Players are allowed to slide headfirst unless they are wearing a helmet with a facemask.  Any player wearing a facemask will be called out if he slides headfirst.

22. A game may end in a tie during the regular season.

23. The team will receive one warning for a player slinging a bat.  For all other occurrences, the batter will be called out.

24. The team will receive on warning for players being outside the dugout.  The next occurrence will result in the ejection of the Head Coach.

25. Runners may leave the base path to avoid interference, but MAY NOT leave the base path to avoid a tag. Runners must slide or surrender at any base a defensive play is being made on. Runners MUST slide at home plate to avoid a collision or be called OUT.

26. The umpire will announce and make the determination of game time and be responsible for monitoring time left.

27. In the event of a rainout, a game is considered complete if three innings have been completed OR if the home team is winning and 2½ innings have been completed.

28. Any rule not listed here will be referenced in the Dixie Youth Rule Book.

Pitch Count Limitations

(1) A League Age 10 and under pitcher shall not throw more than 75 pitches in a game or in a calendar day. Exception: If the pitcher reaches the daily pitch count limit while facing a batter, he may continue to pitch until the batter reaches base safely or is put out.  (2) A League Age 11 or 12 pitcher shall not throw more than 85 pitches in a game or in a calendar day. Exception: If the pitcher reaches the pitch count limit while facing a batter, he may continue to pitch until the batter reaches base safely or is put out. (3) A pitcher shall be allowed to pitch in two or more games on the same calendar day provided he/she does not throw more than 40 cumulative pitches in the previous game or games on the same calendar day (4) All pitchers in local league play must adhere to the following pitch count rest requirements before pitching in another game:

There are no exceptions to the rest period pitch count thresholds.

1 Day = 1 full calendar day, not a 24-hour period

Example: If a pitcher throws 60 pitches on Tuesday, he may not pitch again until Friday.
